Lee Enfield SMLE MKiii* .303 bolt action rifle. Action dated 1918, matching serial numbers.
Although sporterised its conversion has been done fairly well.
The original barrel has been retained with its rear sight base and rear sight spring.
The front sight is also original and the barrel remains unthreaded. A scope rail has been fitted with what look to be Sako Optilock scope mounts to hold the scope.
The bore looks good and judging from other Enfields we have seen this one is pretty tidy. It still retains a bit of shine and is obviously far from factory fresh but that combined with the tidy crown at the muzzle we think this should shoot well.
A nicely set up rifle by itself but we think this would make a lovely project for turning back into a proper SMLE with a new or original stock set which are readily available from the likes of Lee Enfield Parts and Militaria or even Form rifle stocks. Will need various other bits and pieces to convert it back but an excellent project nonetheless.
